Jennie's Whitby Gothic Weekend Page
This page became so long, crammed with my reviews of Whitby
Gothic Weekend events, that I've decided to reorganise it and index the
reviews, making them easier to navigate. If you're interested in attending a
Whitby Gothic Weekend yourself, or just want to know more about it, check
out the official site. Maybe I'll
see you there sometime. :)
Simply click on the links below to access my reviews.
I've begun with the most recent one covered, to make things easier for
frequent visitors.
- April 2008:
Nothing is True. Everything is Permitted. The Mystery of
the Polar Bear, the Adventures of Mangull, debauchery in the Gene Pool,
the Human Catherine Wheel, and inadvisable things to do with a twenty
pound note.
- October 2007:
Down with the Sickness. Sometimes things just don't go to
plan, but when has that ever stopped us?
- April 2007:
Where the Streets have no Shame. In which we spin, spin,
spin the wheel of justice, netgoths go to war with bread products,
innocent pink unicorns are viciously murdered, and our heroes take on the
might of Scarborough council. Plus - the gothic drinking they tried to ban!
- Hallowe'en 2006:
For a Few Netgoths More.Size matters, Newton versus Leibnitz,
drink, blood, fire, philosophy, and the revenge of science.
- April 2006:
Back in Black. In which Erith inadvertently attends a
National Front disco, a man drinks wine out of his own belly button, and
Tal travels to the next world in a burning Viking longboat.
- Hallowe'en 2005:
Gunpowder, Treacle and Plot. More tales of sex and drugs
and shopping, with some fights and explosions thrown in. Cheap meat
wherever you can find it! Tractor versus shark!
- April 2005:
A Series of Importunate Events. In which there is
incompetent piracy, drinking, thwarted pullz0ring, drinking, trouble at
t'Spa, and kicking Jack McConnell up the arse.
- Hallowe'en 2004:
Teenage Kicks all Through the Night. In which glasses are
raised to the dead, riding crops are raised to the living, Stuart's
trousers become more famous than he does, and Erith burns what cannot
be burned.
- April 2004: You've got Red on
You. In which we witness the adventures of Bee-man and
Wipeclean, pirates invade the town, and it's not the tractor, it's what
the tractor represents.
- November 2003: International Dark
Young Things. In which we all start to notice we're getting a
bit older, but there is still drink to be drunk, and the party's not over
yet.
- April 2003: Give Me the
Brain. In which people begin to settle down, except Erith, who
misplaces an entire night.
- October to November 2002: A Fistful
of Netgoths. In which this sleepy seaside town is overrun by
Canadians, Weeble meets Bob, and Erith buys something very shiny.
- April 2002: Warm
Leatherette. In which our heroes are stranded in the Middle of
Nowhere after very nearly going on holiday by mistake; and Donald, Erith and
Hirez form a band.
- November 2001: Summer in
Winter. In which North meets South, with dramatic consequences,
whilst Glasgoths get drunk and wake up in unusual places.
Unfortunately, due to Donald's health problems, I
wasn't able to make it to the November 2000 event. He received his bone
marrow transplant that very weekend. In the meantime, as you can see from
Augeas' photo here, the whole place flooded. Since Donald was still very ill
in April 2001, we missed that too.
- April 2000: Put Your Ray Gun to my
Head. In which young Glasgoths learn to drink like their
forebears, Edingoths get stranded, and Jennie discovers the futility of
hinting.
- October 1999: Can a Little Bit of
What You Fancy Do You Harm? In which our heroes are threatened by
a storm, obscene things are done with a whisk, and Iona distributes many
safety pins.
- April 1999: Shadows and
Fog. In which we meet Head Wound Man, Donald is misplaced in
the mist after an occult experience, and Jennie gets the girl.
I also attended Whitby Gothic Weekends in 1998, 1997 and
1996, but unfortunately the reviews for those are presently lost; they were
never very well organised, and are drifting somewhere in the ether. Should I
ever successfully retrieve them, I'll add them to the collection here.
This way to go back to Jennie's
personal pages.
